Welcome to Dreams Take Flight
Merry Christmas Message…
In some small way “The World may be different because we were important in the life of a child”.
Another great year for Dreams is coming to an end with so many wonderful memories for the organizers as well as the deserving children who came with us and enjoyed the day in Disney Land or Disney World. However, the Spring flights are not that far away and some chapters are in full swing getting ready for April to come and others are planning fundraising activities. We could not accomplish what we love to do without the help and support of our co- workers, family, friends, our sponsors and the Air Canada Foundation.
As the holidays approach, we all reflect on the year past and what we have accomplished and what we all still have on our to do wish list. We also take time to think of those who are less fortunate than we are and help in any way that we can. Just a little gesture can mean so much to someone who has very little.
On behalf of the Executive of Dreams Take Flight I want to extend our wishes for a wonderful holiday season to one and all and a very Happy New Year.
Dreams Take Flight is a national volunteer charitable organization dedicated to providing the trip of a lifetime to physically, mentally or socially challenged children. With the aid of Air Canada, other national and local organizations and businesses, money is raised to make the dreams a reality in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and Halifax. Funds not required for its primary purpose can be gifted by Dreams Take Flight to other registered charities that benefit physically, mentally or socially challenged children and are within the policies adopted by Dreams Take Flight Canada.
25 years of making Magical Memories for Special Kids a Reality.
2014 marks a milestone in the Dreams Take Flight Program. 25 years ago some employees of Air Canada, located in Toronto, decided they should do something to improve the lives of children and had an idea of taking them to Wonderland in Toronto. From that suggestion, the thought developed to see if they could take them to Disney World instead.
Approaching Air Canada to donate a plane was the easy part and after receiving the go ahead then the real work began. Raising the money to get the Kids to Florida, selecting the kids, getting the proper paper work were just a few of the issues that those courageous and resourceful people faced. It was not easy but they were determined and as a result of their hard work Dreams Take Flight now has 8 Chapters across Canada who take children to either Disney World or Disney Land
Unless you have been on a flight it is not very easy to explain how wonderful and how much enjoyment the children experience on that day and the difference it makes to their lives. After every flight we receive many thank you cards and letter from the parent of the children who were selected or the agencies we selection some of our children from. Some of the chapters are now having some of those children who were on their flight, volunteering to help so that others can share the same experience as they did.
I want to thank our major sponsor, The Air Canada Foundation, Bentley’s, Party City and Crocs for their continuing support of our program without them it would be very difficult to continue. To all the sponsor that help and assist their local Dreams Take Flight Chapters, who are too numerous to mention, again thank you for your involvement.
Here’s looking to another 25 years of Making Magical Memories for Special Kids.
